As the British Research Panel continues to grow, we had the opportunity to hear from some of our members on what motivates them to get involved in research.
Derek and Brian are among 55,000 members of the British Research Panel and are keen to engage in research. To give our members a voice, we spoke to a number of volunteers to better understand why they want to engage.
Giving back
“I’d like to give something back”, says Brian, who found out about the British Research Panel online about 5 years ago.
Having participated in a clinical trial for Cancer Research in the past and currently being involved in a vaccine trial, contributing to the treatments available for future generations is something that Brian is passionate about.
Similarly to Brian, Derek also wants to participate in research to give back and contribute to future developments.
I want to help future generations. Anything I can do to help future generations is important and trying to play a part in that would be tremendous.
Volunteers are necessary for clinical trials and for progress to be made. Without them, the treatments we have today wouldn’t exist!
The Importance and Benefits of Research
Clinical trials are essential for research to progress and for better treatments to be found.
Through participating, you will have the opportunity to learn more about your health and try new and potentially improved treatments. You will also receive thorough monitoring from health experts and be guided during enrolment by our experienced nurses.
In addition to this, you will be contributing to the future of medicine and the advancement of research.
“I have kids and grandkids. I want to help future generations, and we need research to get there. So even if I can help in a small way, it’s still something,” shares Derek who is keen to get involved in research and clinical trials.
Engagement from our Members!
Having been offering our members participation in a number of studies, we have seen more than 9,000 members express interest in a study for cardiovascular disease that we are working with and more than 2,500 for a COPD study.
“It is inspiring to see such high engagement from our community and the eagerness to participate,” says Rasmus, Patient Engagement Director.
At the British Research Panel, we work to raise awareness of research and clinical trials, as we know many people want to get involved but don’t know how. We want to thank our members for their interest – without them, none of this would be possible.
Spreading awareness of research and clinical trials is something we strive towards at the British Research Panel. Our online communities offer resources and informative material, and we also keep our members up to date with the latest research news.
“I’m not really aware of what’s going on in terms of research, so if there’s an initiative to get something moving, that would be wonderful. Nowadays social media is the way to go for making the vast majority of people aware of clinical research,” shares Derek.

Our upcoming studies will also be added to this page once they get started. Due to strict eligibility criteria, the studies won’t match everyone who signs up, nevertheless every entry is valuable in advancing research!
We want to take this opportunity to thank all of our members for their keen interest and engagement in research.
