Green Tea Drinkers Have Fewer Brain Lesions Linked to Dementia

A recent Japanese study suggests that regularly drinking green tea may help protect the brain from dementia by reducing the number of white matter lesions—areas of damage linked to cognitive decline.

Researchers analysed older adults and found that those who consumed green tea frequently had fewer of these lesions compared to those who drank little or none. Interestingly, the study found that coffee consumption did not show the same protective effect.

The researchers suggest that drinking three or more cups of green tea daily could support brain health, potentially due to bioactive compounds such as catechins, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

The results add to growing evidence that green tea may be a simple, natural way to help maintain cognitive function as we age.
